HBO Go, the TV Everywhere application from the premium TV content powerhouse, will soon be available to Latin American subscribers.
Speaking to Argentine newspaper El Cronista, Kari Pérez, HBO's head of public relations and corporate matters for Latin America, confirmed that Brazil will be the first country in the region where the app will be activated.
That will be sometime before the end of the year, and it will be closely followed by an Argentinean launch.
Back in April, HBO's main competitor in the region – MovieCity – had introduced its own TV Everywhere platform. Called Moviecity Play, the service is already being accessed by some 600,000 viewers in Argentina alone.
HBO Go, which so far is available only in the United States, will offer similar functionality to that of Moviecity Play. The cloud-based app will allow HBO subscribers (as long as they have bought their premium TV bundles from an operator participating in the new scheme) to go online to access the vast catalogue of films and series that the brand is renowned for.
Besides typical residential broadband access via computers, a mobile version of the service supporting iPad, iPhone and Android devices will also be available in the near future. When HBO launched this particular mobile app in the States earlier this year, it was downloaded three million times in the space of just one month.
Following the Brazilian and Argentinean launches, HBO Go will gradually be deployed throughout the rest of the region in those markets where the company has a presence.
